West Fargo family escapes apartment, garage fireWEST FARGO – Fire damaged an apartment and garage here this morning, but no one was injured in the blaze at 1911 Hampton Way in the 1300 block of 19th Avenue East.
Smoke was reported coming from the garage at 12:42 a.m.
Residents of the apartment were alerted by West Fargo police officers.
As family members were on their way out of the apartment they attempted to find their three cats, but heavy smoke prevented them from doing so, according to a police report on the incident.
After firefighters knocked the fire down and the apartment was aired out, the cats were found safe under a bed, according to the report.
Police said the garage suffered the heaviest damage.
A vehicle and a boat were damaged in the fire, along with other items in the garage.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
