North Dakota milk production drops in first quarter of 2012

BISMARCK — Milk production in North Dakota during the first three months of the year totaled 84 million pounds, down 5 percent over the year.

The Agriculture Department says the average number of milk cows in the state during the first quarter was 18,000. That was unchanged from the final quarter of last year but down 2,000 head from the first quarter of 2011.
