MSUM hosting two conferences

MOORHEAD – Minnesota State University Moorhead is hosting the Red River Psychology Conference and the Latino Unity Conference this week.

The MSUM psychology department and psychology club are hosting the 26th annual Red River Psychology Conference today and Friday.

The conference attracts undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from the tri-college community, as well as many surrounding colleges, professional schools and research institutions.

The keynote speaker is Blair Johnson from the University of Connecticut. He will deliver an address titled “Some Dashed Hopes but the Power of Belief Wins in the End: Lessons Learned from Anti-Depressant Trials” at 7:30 tonight at the Science Laboratory Building Room 104.

He also plans a luncheon address at 12:45 p.m. Friday titled “Why Do HIV Prevention Trials Success Rates Vary: Networks, Individuals and Resources” in the Comstock Memorial Union ballroom.

The MSUM Organization Latina Americana is hosting the 16th Unity Conference today and Friday. The theme is “Charting New Directions: Nuevos Horizontes.”

Conference topics include: Apocalyptic events surrounding the ancient Mayan calendar; the role of Latinos in this year’s political events; how the Latino community is changing in the Midwest; a motivational talk for students with an interest in science, technology, engineering and math; and profiles of successful Latino youth in the context of higher educational goals.
