South Dakota State names new head wrestling coach

BROOKINGS, S.D. — A former national champion wrestler at Iowa State has been named head wrestling coach at South Dakota State.

Chris Bono will succeed Jason Liles, who resigned last month after 19 seasons in which he became the program's career wins leader with 148 victories.

Bono won a national title at 150 pounds in 1996 and was runner-up a year later. He was an alternate for the 2000 U.S. Olympic team and a member of U.S. teams that won world championships in 2001, 2002 and 2005.

He has served as an assistant head coach at Iowa State and as a head coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga.
