Grand Forks restricts sexually oriented businessesGRAND FORKS — Grand Forks leaders have decided to restrict where sexually oriented businesses can operate.
The ordinance unanimously approved by the City Council applies to everything from adult video stores to strip clubs. It prohibits them from operating within 1,000 feet of schools and within 500 feet of churches, parks and residential zones.
The ordinance is the result of objections to plans by a Fargo lingerie and sex toy store to open a shop in Grand Forks. Fantasy's wanted to operate in a building a block away from an elementary school.
Owner Kim Patterson says she got city approval earlier this year, and she thinks it's unfair for the city to change the rules.
