Construction begins on new Hillsboro water plant

HILLSBORO, N.D. — Construction has begun on a new water treatment plant here.

The plant is part of a $28 million joint project between the city of Hillsboro, Mayville and Traill Rural Water System that also includes supply lines and a well field.

The new plant is the final $9 million phase of the project, but the city will end up paying only $2.3 million after federal grants.

Hillsboro Mayor Mark Forseth says there really wasn't anything wrong with Hillsboro water other than it being hard and a little bitter tasting. He says with the new plant, the city is going to be able to offer softened, better-quality water.

Hillsboro homeowners will see their rates double. The new plant should be finished by September.
