Son accuses Grand Forks woman of smoking meth

GRAND FORKS - A woman here has been charged with endangerment of a child after her 14-year-old son took pictures of her smoking methamphetamine in their apartment and called police.

Marsha Rae Bercier, 31, and her friend Amanda Jackson-White were allegedly smoking meth Tuesday in front of Bercier’s three children, ages 1, 2 and 14.

According to a court affidavit filed in Grand Forks County District Court on Wednesday, officers arrived at the apartment at 3624 Landeco Lane Unit 35A and were invited in by Bercier.

They noticed a light haze in the air and a chemical smell and read Bercier the Miranda Warning, after which Bercier admitted that she and Jackson-White smoked meth in the apartment with the children present.

Grand Forks Area Narcotics Task Force members found meth paraphernalia in the apartment, including syringes and a spoon with residue in Jackson-White’s purse.

Aside from the child endangerment charge, both Bercier and Jackson-White were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia are both Class C felonies, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Both women are due in court May 30 for a preliminary hearing.
