Heitkamp town hall meeting today in Fargo

FARGO – Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp has planned a series of town hall meetings in North Dakota today to discuss her opponent’s support for the House Republicans’ budget.

Republican Rep. Rick Berg – who’s also seeking North Dakota’s U.S. Senate seat this year – voted two weeks ago in favor of the controversial budget proposal offered by House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan.

Berg, a staunch proponent of repealing the 2010 health care reform law, said Ryan’s proposal secured health care programs for seniors where President Obama’s overhaul didn’t.

Democrats – including Heitkamp – have lambasted the Ryan budget as a threat to senior citizens’ benefits and entitlement programs.

Today’s town hall meetings in Bismarck, Fargo and Grand Forks are open to the public.

The event in Fargo is from 2 to 3 p.m. at The Depot, 701 Main Ave.
