Hastings man sentenced to 5 years for 11th DWIHASTINGS, Minn. — A Hastings man who pleaded guilty to 11th-offense driving while intoxicated has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Forty-seven-year-old Michael Allan Andrist initially told authorities he was under the influence of a synthetic drug called "bath salts." Tests later revealed he was taking cocaine and methamphetamine.
A St. Paul Pioneer Press report says he was sentenced Friday. A message left with his public defender Saturday was not immediately returned.
Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom noted that Andrist has 10 previous convictions for driving while intoxicated, and said he hopes Andrist gets the help he needs.
Andrist was arrested near Rosemount last summer after a brief chase. Witnesses say Andrist was traveling about 70 mph on Highway 72 and driving in and out of the ditch.
