Fire index at extreme level in FargoFARGO – The Fargo Fire Department reminds citizens that while recreational fires in the city are legal under normal conditions, they are currently banned because the fire index is at an extreme level.
When recreational fires are permitted, there are rules related to their use.
“Recreational fires cannot be located within 25 feet of a structure (including decks and fences) or other combustible material unless they are in an approved container designed for this purpose, such as a screened appliance,” according to a release from the fire department. Even in an approved container, the fires must be at least 15 feet from structures.
The fire cannot be more than three feet in diameter or two feet in height.
All recreational fires must be constantly attended until the fire is extinguished with the immediate use of a fire extinguisher or a garden hose.
“Do not burn anything other than a good dry wood,” the release states. “Any recreational fire that will be offensive or objectionable due to smoke or odor emissions is prohibited.”
