Botanic Society to receive cherry tree seedsFARGO – The Northern Plains Botanic Garden Society is one of many other botanic gardens and universities around the country that have been invited to receive 100 cherry tree seeds from the Cherry Blossom Tree Association of Japan.
This is in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of when Japan gave the U.S. 3,000 cherry blossom trees. Those trees can still be seen in the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C.
The new seeds will grow on North Dakota State University’s campus until they are mature enough to be transported to the Northern Plains Botanic Gardens in Fargo.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival runs through April 27, and it includes a new Japanese Garden of Mind and Soul.
