Bismarck-Mandan flood stages being loweredBISMARCK — Missouri River flood stages at Bismarck-Mandan are changing effective May 2.
National Weather Service hydrologist Allen Schlag tells The Bismarck Tribune that the current stages were set years ago and that the changes will better reflect the impact high water has on the metro area.
The weather service says in a statement that minor flood stage is moving from 16 feet to 14.5 feet and moderate flood stage from 18 feet to 16 feet. Eighteen feet will become major flood stage.
