North Dakota man dies in train-truck collision near Sawyer

PORTAL, N.D. — A Sawyer man has died after a fiery collision with a train in northern North Dakota.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the 50-year-old man was driving a semi-truck and trailer northeast on a dirt road when he failed to stop at a railroad crossing and collided with a southeast-bound Canadian Pacific train. The crash occurred about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday near Sawyer.

Firefighters from Velva and Sawyer were called to the scene to extinguish the fire ignited by the fuel tank.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim.
