Portraits: Gabriel Ferragut and Connor Teske

Gabriel Ferragut and Connor Teske have found a new balance in life. The two 18-year-old Fargo North High School seniors are often at Fargo's Trollwood Park, stringing up 1-inch tubular webbing between two trees for a sport called slack lining. “It’s a balance exercise,” Ferragut said. Ferragut became interested in slack lining because he knew it would push him to become a better rock climber. Teske also took an interest in the challenging sport. “We started out with balancing,” Teske said. “Then you take a step and do 180s. Now we’ve gotten to the point where we’ll jump. It’s tough.” The friends have found the hobby is great for their social life, as well. More and more people show up after school to participate or watch slack lining. “It’s brought us all together ... because we have a common purpose now,” Ferragut said. “Every time we come out here, we get new fans.”
