Smoke from burning fields in Barnesville blows into southeast Fargo

FARGO ā€“ Residents of Moorhead and parts of Fargo might have been wondering about the source of the fire creating a smoky sky here Sunday afternoon.

Fargo Assistant Police Chief Leroy Skarlocken said the whole southeast section of Fargo was filled with smoke, which seemed to have a local source, but it was determined later to be coming from burning fields in Barnesville, Minn., some 20 miles to the east. ā€œIā€™m just surprised the wind would carry it that far,ā€ Skarloken said.

He added that personnel from a lifeline helicopter circling the area east of Moorhead agreed to look for the source of the fire, but the thick haze forced them to turn around, complying with protocol for poor visibility conditions.
