Minneapolis officer shoots, injures man with knife

MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis police officer shot and injured a man who authorities say was threatening the officer with a knife.

Police say at about 9 a.m. Sunday, an officer was called to the intersection of Franklin and Lyndale avenues by a woman who said she was being accosted by a man.

Sgt. Bill Palmer says the man threatened the officer with a knife. The officer backed away and told the man to drop the weapon, but Palmer says the man refused and kept coming at the officer in a threatening way.

The officer shot the man more than once. The man was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. He's expected to survive.

The officer has been on the police department for 24 years. He was placed on standard administrative leave.
