Police say man stole son’s motorcycleHILLSBORO, N.D. – A man is facing charges after police say he broke into a building near here and stole his son’s motorcycle.
William Mooney, whose age and address weren’t listed in court documents, is charged with one count of theft of property and two counts of burglary, according to documents filed Tuesday in Traill County District Court.
Documents say that on March 22, Mooney’s son, Dereck Mooney, approached police around noon and asked them to check on a farm where his motorcycle was being stored. His father, Dereck Mooney told police, had allegedly warned that he would go out to the farm and “tear down the doors to get the motorcycle,” documents state.
Two hours later, Hillsboro police received a call that there had indeed been a break-in at the farm in question, and that Dereck Mooney’s motorcycle had been taken.
Later that afternoon, police located the motorcycle, with its license plates removed, in the shop of an acquaintance of William Mooney. The license plates from the bike were later discovered in William Mooney’s truck, according to court documents.
