Note all services to quit smoking

I was very pleased to see this week’s issue of Hot Topics, dealing with the subject of “Know Smoking.”

There’s a wealth of information in there that can only help people rid themselves of the miserable, nasty, stinky, expensive addiction to tobacco products. That being said, I was a little disappointed in the section on resources, aptly called Web Resources. I didn’t see any mention of the Quit Line connections, whether North Dakota, Minnesota or South Dakota. Calling 1-800-QUIT NOW is a great source of help, plus often free medications.

Another missing resource would be the local programs for outpatient counseling here in the Fargo area. There is one at Sanford Medical Center that requires a physician referral. One can call (701) 234-5191 for more information.

Another program is available at Fargo Cass Public Health. Call (701) 476-4083 for information. And Essentia has a program, though I’m not sure exactly how it works. You could call their general information number at (701) 364-800 for help.

Quitting tobacco is the single most important factor in maintaining and regaining one’s health.
