Thank you from FirstChoice ClinicDuring January, there was an amazing event quietly occurring in our community – the Largest Baby Shower. Setting aside politics and opinions, the Fargo- Moorhead community came together to show its support of the life-saving work of FirstChoice Clinic, a local pregnancy help clinic.
During January, coincidentally Sanctity of Human Life month, people from our community donated diapers, baby items and clothing to help stock our clinic’s “family boutique.” If our charity had purchased these items, the cost would have been more than $8,000 – something that is not a line item on our budget.
This annual event benefits FirstChoice Clinic’s clients enrolled in its Earn While You Learn educational program, a program that offers new parents a chance to obtain needed items for their baby by attending educational sessions on pregnancy, adoption and parenting. The “points” they earn by attending these classes are then “spent” at our boutique. It’s literally a hand up to our clients, not a handout – they earn the items they are given and also receive valuable lessons on how to better parent their child.
Here is a quote from one client who “graduated” from the program: “I vividly recall how I felt when I found out I was pregnant. Would I be able to fulfill my dreams? Thankfully, I completed college, found a job, was married and had another child – things I always hoped to achieve. I am so blessed to be able to say “I did it!” and owe much of my success to FirstChoice Clinic. I am now able to give back to the clinic by volunteering there. I hope my story can help someone else. A story like mine, that ended OK, would be reassuring to young women experiencing uncertainty as I did.”
FirstChoice extends a special thank-you to KFNW Christian radio (Life 97.9 and Faith 1200). KFNW sponsored and promoted the baby shower. Its staff shined in their effort to educate the community about the gift of life. Additionally, a special shout out to our area Hornbacher’s stores, which served as drop-off locations for the baby items and whose employees were so gracious. And finally, thank you to the many volunteers who collected the items and delivered them to FirstChoice, despite rain, snow or sleet – our gratitude goes to you as well.
On behalf of the families we serve, thank you for being a community that puts love into action. Because of you, lives are touched and are literally being saved, and you make it all possible.
