Sex offender who molested a second child while on probation gets 12 yearsMOORHEAD – A Dilworth man who admitted to molesting an 8-year-old boy while on probation for the sexual assault of an underage girl was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison.
Robert James Hersrud, 28, will likely be civilly committed for the rest of his life because of his prior sex conviction, Assistant County Attorney Pamela Harris has said.
Hersrud was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with credit for 577 days served in jail since his arrest.
He will have to serve an additional 18 months for violating his probation stemming from his 2005 conviction for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, Harris said Monday.
Hersrud received a stayed 1½-year sentence in the 2005 case and was placed on 15 years of probation, with one condition being no unsupervised contact with children.
He also will have to register as a sex offender for life.
During his plea hearing Jan. 27, Hersrud admitted he molested the boy “well over five times” from September 2008 to July 2010. He pleaded guilty to one second-degree count of criminal sexual conduct; seven first-degree counts were dismissed.
