Time capsule uncovered in Grand Forks buildingGRAND FORKS — Local historians last week uncovered a time capsule in the cornerstone of the former Grand Forks YWCA before it met the wrecking ball.
Contents included editions of the Grand Forks Herald newspaper that described the groundbreaking in July 1951 and the laying of the cornerstone later that year, pictures, a handwritten list of the bricklayers and a 1949 brochure used to raise nearly $300,000 for the building.
Grand Forks Historic Preservation Commission member Cory Lien says it isn't every day you find a building cornerstone with a time capsule in it.
The site where the building stood is being turned into parking for Central High School.
