Concordia to host National Book AwardsMOORHEAD – Concordia College will host the annual National Book Awards March 29-30.
Nikky Finney, winner of the 2011 National Book Award for poetry, and Thanhha Lai, winner of the 2011 National Book Award for young people’s literature, will be on the campus for a residency that will include master classes, presentations and a reading and conversation with the authors hosted by National Public Radio’s Lynn Neary.
The readings and conversation event will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 29 in the Knutson Center Centrum with a reception and book-signing to follow. The event is free and open to the public.
Finney, author of “Head Off & Split,” is a professor of creative writing at the University of Kentucky. She is the author of three previous volumes of poetry and a collection of stories and edited “The Ringing Ear: Black Poets Lean South.”
Lai, author of “Inside Out & Back Again,” a novel in verse, earned a degree in journalism from the University of Texas in Austin and has a master’s degree from New York University. She lives in New York City and teaches writing at Parsons School of Design.
