Fire chief says he's 'pretty sure' Dilworth home was totaled by fire

Officials are looking into a fire this morning at a home that was being constructed in northeast Dilworth.

"I'm pretty sure it's totaled," Dilworth Fire Chief Kurt Kennedy said of the home at 1406 West Summerwood Trail.

Several workers were on the scene when the fire began and one of them reported the fire, Dilworth Police Department Investigator Hunter Rawson. No one was injured in the fire.

"The fire got into floor joists, and once it gets into a cavity that's open like that it takes off really quick," Kennedy said. "And it got up to the ceiling and into the rafters so it took off that way too."

The fire was called in as an electrical fire, Kennedy said. But the blaze was still being investigated and no official cause had been determined at the time of the interview with Kennedy early this afternoon.

Dilworth Police Department, Clay County Sheriff's Department, Dilworth Fire Department and Moorhead Fire department all responded to the scene.
