Military NotesGRADUATED: The following Air Force Airmen recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas: Joshua Saiers son of Jon and Robin Saiers, Larimore, N.D.; Taylor Quinn, son of Shelby and Sean Quinn, Wheatland, N.D.; Air Force Airman Nicholas Losee, son of Darren Losee, Fargo.
SPECIAL HONORS: Air Force Lt. Col. Timothy Schepper was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, signifying the performance of a heroic or meritorious act or distinguished service. Schepper has served in the military for 25 years and is a group standardization and evaluation pilot in the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D. He is a 1980 graduate of Perham High School and a 1985 graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead. Schepper is the son of William and Elayne Schepper, Vergas, Minn.
North Dakota National Guard Spc. Aaron Bedford was presented the White Honor Guard Lanyard by the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors program recently due to the successful performance of 50 or more funeral missions. Bedford is a percussionist in Guard’s 188th Army Band in Fargo. He is a student at North Dakota State University.
PROMOTED: Skyler Moderow has been promoted to the rank of Airman First Class with the North Dakota Air National Guard. She serves as a dental assistant with the 119th Medical Group in Fargo. Moderow is a 2010 graduate of Central Cass High School, Casselton, N.D., and a current student at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. She is the daughter of Diane and Douglas Moderow, Casselton, N.D.
Maricela Hernandez, Moorhead, and Jamison Smestad, Fargo, were promoted to the rank of specialist in the North Dakota Army National Guard with Company B of the 231st Brigade Support Battalion. Hernandez joined the Guard in 2010, and Smestad has served since 2008.
Michael Simley, formerly of Fargo, was promoted to the rank of colonel with the United States Army by the Air Defense Artillery Commandant at a ceremony held in Fort Sill, Okla. Simley is the son of Sandy and David Simley, Fargo.
ENLISTED: Kally Anderson, Glyndon, has enlisted with the North Dakota Air National Guard. She will serve with the 119th Wing in Fargo. Anderson is a 2011 graduate of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School and the daughter of Britta and Cary Anderson, Glyndon.
Staff Sgt. Joel O’Neil, West Fargo, has extended his contract for one more year with Company A of the 231st Brigade Support Battalion, Fargo. O’Neil has been a member of the Army National Guard for 12 years and holds two military occupational specialties. He attended North Dakota State University and works for Wanzek Construction as a general superintendent.
