Namedroppers (March 11, 2012)MSUM NEWS: Loida Garcia Guajardo, daughter of Pablo Guajardo and Elizabeth Garcia de Guajardo, Moorhead, has been awarded a $6,000 Dragon Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead. The Dragon Scholarship awards $1,500 for the freshman year and requires a high school class rank in the top 60 percent and a score of 28 or above on the ACT exam. It is renewable for a maximum of four years with a 3.5 GPA.
NDSU NEWS: Christopher Yanish-Taylor, son of Eric and Jennifer Taylor, West Fargo, has been admitted to North Dakota State University “with distinction.” Distinction means that NDSU is acknowledging him as an honor student.
MAKING THE GRADE: Rockford (Ill.) College has named Hailey Johnson, Moorhead, a Distinguished Scholar for earning a 3.75 GPA with no grades falling below a C.
Jill Prososki, Fargo, and Elizabeth McClernon, Wheaton, Minn., were named to the dean’s list at the University of Dallas, Irving, Texas.
INTERNS AND CLERKS: Absolute Marketing of Moorhead has hired Kayla Jo Forsman, Dylan Cadwallader and Brian Koenig as spring interns. Forsman and Cadwallader are business and marketing majors at Concordia College and will assist with client relations. Koenig is a public relations major at North Dakota State University and will work in media buying.
AND THE WINNER IS ...: High school teams and individuals who were winners at the 38th annual Tri-College Mathematics Contest among 1,500 students held at Concordia College were as follows:
E Senior Level Large School Division: Moorhead High School’s Megazord Team won first place. Team members were Sam Wisenden, Andrew Carlson, Jonny Haglund, Ryan Olson, Matt Lillehaugen, Even Johnson, Tyler Meenlib and Connor Neill.
Top individual award winners were Andrew Carlson, Jonny Haglund and Matt Lillehaugen, Moorhead High School; and Jason Burns, Fergus Falls, Minn., High School, all top 10 finishers.
E Senior Level Small School Division: Hillcrest Lutheran Academy’s Senior High Red Team won first place. Team members were Mark Undseth, Seung Joon Chung, Ju Young Kim, Brooke Ferenczy, Jaron Olsoe, Daniel Schjelderup, Taylor Filippini and Ji-Hyun Kim.
Top individual award winners were Greg Erlandson, Breckenridge (Minn.) High School, first; Josh Breid, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School, second; Chase Zeller, Lake Park-Audubon (Minn.) High School, Max Schmidt, Breckenridge High School, Devan Pekas and Nick Carlson, both Hawley (Minn.) High School, Ryan Hammernik and Kayla Mehrer, both DGF High School, all top 10 finishers.
E Lower Level Large School Division: Top individual winners were Luke Lillehaugen, Moorhead High School, third; and Britnee Surprenant, Moorhead High School, top ten finisher.
EXHIBITS AND PERFORMANCES: Area students Jordan Shive of West Fargo and Katie Dauwen, Beth Paulson and Zach Thorseth of Fargo are touring across the Midwest with the Jamestown (N.D.) College Choir. The tour will wrap up with a home concert at 2 p.m. March 18 at the Basilica of St. James, Jamestown.
