Wahpeton scores win over GF Central in East Region boys basketball quaterfinalsWAHPETON – Wahpeton was 23-for-26 from the free-throw line in a 70-55 win over Grand Forks Central in the quarterfinals of the East Region boys basketball tournament on Thursday.
Jeremy Bontjes scored 19 points to pace the Huskies (15-5).
“I thought we were pretty solid,” Wahpeton head coach Jeff Ralph said. “Nothing was really too flashy, but I thought we did a nice job of getting the ball to Jeremy Bontjes in the second half.”
The Huskies, who play Fargo Shanley 8:15 p.m. Friday in the semifinals, were 20-of 21 from the free-throw line in the second half and outrebounded the Knights 29-15.
Wahpeton defeated Fargo Shanley 68-60 and 67-56 during the regular season.
Nate Pratt added 13 points for the Huskies.
David Olson scored 18 points to pace the Knights (8-13).
