Law enforcement in southeast N.D. plans DUI blitz March 16-24WEST FARGO – The Southeast Regional DUI Task Force plans to boost enforcement efforts March 16 to 24 to deter impaired driving.
The task force includes the North Dakota Highway Patrol, police departments in Fargo, Lisbon and Wahpeton, and sheriff’s offices in Cass, Ransom, Sargent, Steele and Richland counties.
West Fargo Officer Jorge Gonzales said in a news release that the task force’s goal is not only to arrest drunk drivers, but also to raise public awareness and prevent impaired driving.
In 2010, 53 percent of all fatal crashes in North Dakota involved alcohol, according to a state crash summary. Annually, the state has 5,000 to 6,000 DUI arrests, and the average blood-alcohol content at the time of arrest is .17, more than twice the legal limit for driving, the news release stated.
