Bismarck gets flood protection recommendationsBISMARCK (AP) — The city of Bismarck is a step closer to having a flood protection plan in place for this year.
Consultant Apex Engineering on Tuesday presented its final recommendations to the City Commission. Engineers addressed two possible scenarios — Missouri River ice jam flooding such as what happened in 2009, and open-water flooding similar to last year. The plan includes numerous technical measures.
Engineer Scott Olson says one of the main recommendations is that the city work with Burleigh County on a flood plan because much of the riverbank is county property.
Mayor John Warford says the city will study the recommendations and use them if needed. He also says city and county officials will meet to discuss coordination.
