TRADE TALK: Hillsboro newspaper changes hands

Sean and Cheryl Kelly of Hillsboro Banner Inc., have sold the Hillsboro Banner newspaper to Sub-Zero Press.

Stockholders of Sub-Zero Press include Cory Erickson, the president of the company, and Cole and Alyssa Short.

All are residents of Hillsboro, N.D.

The Hillsboro Banner, established in 1879, is North Dakota’s oldest weekly newspaper.

“We’re very excited for this opportunity to bring a new perspective to the Banner,” Erickson said, adding, “It’s an honor to be a part of the storied history of this publication.”

Sean Kelly, president of Kelly Ink Inc., of Lisbon, N.D., said the Banner has had a tradition of putting community interests first, a tradition he sees continuing under the new owners.

Cole Short, a former reporter at The Forum and currently an insurance agent, will do news reporting for the Banner as well as some sports writing.

His wife, Alyssa, who works for Microsoft, will write a food column for the Banner and handle bookkeeping.
