Charges: Suspect was smoking meth before hotel shooting

MINNEAPOLIS — Prosecutors say a 33-year-old man was smoking meth with other men at a downtown Minneapolis hotel before he fatally shot one of them.

Brian Vincent Griffin of Dayton was charged Tuesday in Hennepin County with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Griffin is accused of killing 33-year-old Jeremy Shannon of Minneapolis and of shooting at another man in the Millennium Hotel room early Saturday.

According to the complaint, Griffin said the victim and another man were "talking about things that made him nervous." The complaint says as Griffin reached the door to leave the room, he said he thought "I have to do this" and began shooting,

Police found Griffin hiding in a closet in a hotel across the street. He remains in jail, with a court appearance set Wednesday.
