Former Hawley police chief Rhodes diesHAWLEY, Minn. – The former police chief of Hawley has died after a battle with cancer.
Ernest “Ernie” Rhodes worked for the city for 3½ years before retiring Sept. 10, 2010, after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He returned to his home state of Louisiana.
Rhodes died Saturday at age 61 in Baton Rouge, La., where he had worked from 1977 to 2006, rising to the rank of captain. He retired from that job and accepted his “dream job” as police chief in Hawley in 2007, according to his obituary.
