WATCH NOW: Many snowmobile trails are empty in Northeastern North Dakota

Walhalla, ND (WDAY TV) -- Northeastern North Dakota is known for the vast number of snowmobile trails. But this winter, not one trail opened because of lack of snow.

In and around the town of Walhalla, lawns, ditches and fields are brown.

Kathy Stremick - Walhalla Economic Development Director: "There is absolutely no snow, it's like a spring day."

This is a frustrating year for Economic Development Director Kathy Stremick. Snowmobilers help drive the local economy. This is an area snowmobilers usually flock to riding 450 some miles of trails."

Kathy: "We usually have snowmobilers Monday through Sunday traveling this area. Snowmobilers staying in our community, so not having snow is devastating."
