Wheaton man drowns while ice fishingWHEATON, Minn. – A 50-year-old Wheaton man drowned Sunday night after breaking through the ice of a lake where he was fishing, Traverse County Sheriff Brion Plautz said in a news release.
After being alerted by his family that Charles Krauth had not returned from fishing on Sunday, authorities located the man’s 4-wheeler and dog near a hole in the ice of Mud Lake, west of Wheaton, the release said.
Krauth’s body was found and recovered from about 7 feet of water. Ice in the area was less than an inch thick, according to the release.
