Lind: Neighbors chats with a ‘Chopper’

Minnesota Woodchoppers fans have sent in many memories of that musical group which used to perform in the area. Now, here’s word from the band’s drummer.

He’s Del Woodard, who writes that stories about the ’Choppers “brought back many fun memories for me.

“I always looked forward to Saturday nights when we were at the Moorhead Armory,” he says.

Del is still performing, singing classic country and western swing. He plays the guitar, “but I still like drumming,” he says.

Del wonders if there are any Woodchoppers fans around who’d care to correspond with him.

His address: Del Woodard, Box 222, Clear Lake, SD 57226.

’Choppers at Breck

Pete Anderson, Coon Rapids, Minn., is one who remembers the Woodchoppers well.

“They played at the Breckenridge (Minn.) Pavilion on several Friday and Sunday nights,” he writes, and had “quite a following.

“I grew up at Colfax, N.D., and danced to their music many times between 1953 and 1956. Great memories!

“Anyone else remember the dances at Breckenridge?” Pete wonders.

Wouldn’t doubt it, Pete.
