ND officials say little support for base closingsGRAND FORKS, N.D. — Members of North Dakota's congressional delegation say there appears to be little support in Congress for a new round of military base closings.
The Pentagon has proposed another round of domestic base closures as part of efforts to slow the growth of the nation's defense spending. During the last round in 2005, Grand Forks Air Force Base lost its refueling mission. The base has gained a drone mission but has lost about half its population.
Sens. Kent Conrad and John Hoeven and Rep. Rick Berg tell the Grand Forks Herald that they don't think lawmakers will go along with the idea of shuttering more bases.
