Fargo woman arrested for DUI after car crashes into barrier by pedestrian tunnelFARGO – Police arrested a 29-year-old woman on suspicion of drunken driving after the car she was driving went off Interstate 94 and crashed into a concrete barrier jutting out from a pedestrian tunnel that runs under I-94.
A homeowner who lives along the interstate at about Ninth Street reported the crash at 1:48 a.m. today, Sgt. Mike Erbes said.
The car was westbound on I-94 when the driver lost control and the car slid down the north ditch, crashed through a chain-link fence and struck the short barrier, flipping the car onto its top, Erbes said.
Firefighters had to extricate the woman from the car. Ryutsuki Schmidt of Fargo was taken by F-M Ambulance to Essentia Health, where she was treated and released, Erbes said.
Road conditions didn’t appear to be a factor in the crash, he said.
Erbes said it’s fortunate the barrier was short enough to absorb some of the force of the impact instead of stopping the car completely, and that no one was using the pedestrian trail at the time.
“It could have been ugly,” he said.
