First flood outlook of season good news for MinotMINOT, N.D. (AP) — The National Weather Service says the Souris River Basin in north central North Dakota has below-normal snow cover that right now means a low risk of major flooding.
The agency's first flood outlook of the season shows no chance of the river surpassing major flood stage at Minot and less than a 10 percent chance of it surpassing moderate or even minor flood stage.
Last year, the river reached record levels and swamped more than 4,000 homes and businesses in the city.
The weather service says the risk of flooding right now across the Souris River region is mostly near normal.
