The Burleigh County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday posthumously awarded the Sheriff's Cross Award to Bryan Sleeper. The 39-year-old deputy died of an apparent heart attack last September during an arrest.
Sheriff Pat Heinert says it's the first time in the department's history the Sheriff's Cross Award has been presented.
Widow Lana Sleeper says she has been overwhelmed by the support from the sheriff's department in the months following her husband's death.
