ND man sentenced for hammer attack on wifeGRAFTON, N.D. — A Grafton man accused of repeatedly hitting his wife in the head with a hammer has been sentenced to time he already has served in jail.
Sixty-one-year-old Frank Aasand initially faced an attempted murder charge. He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault under an agreement with prosecutors and was given a three-year sentence with all of the time suspended but the 261 days he spent behind bars while the case proceeded.
Aasand is a free man but prosecutors say he's barred from contacting his wife and has agreed to move out of Grafton. He is on supervised probation for five years.
Authorities say Aasand attacked his wife last May, continuing to hit her even after calling 911. Victoria Aasand says she was struck about 10 times. She needed emergency surgery.
