Former NDSU VP named permanent president at Dickinson State University

DICKINSON, N.D. – D.C. Coston has been appointed permanent president of Dickinson State University.

State Board of Higher Education President Grant Shaft said constituents of Dickinson State overwhelmingly asked that Coston, who has been serving as interim president, continue permanently.

Coston is former vice president for agriculture at North Dakota State University. He was appointed to lead Dickinson State after Richard McCallum was fired.

The board, meeting over conference call, voted unanimously this morning to make Coston president.

The board had the option of conducting a search for a new president, but faculty, staff, community members and other constituents told board leaders they prefer Coston to continue leading, Shaft said.

“I can tell you that without exception the comments regarding D.C. Coston’s interim presidency were overwhelmingly positive,” Shaft said.

The board fired McCallum after an audit found he inflated enrollment figures.
