Truck breaks through ice in Becker CountyDETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Becker County authorities are advising against motor traffic on area lakes after a truck broke through a lake southwest of here Monday evening, Sheriff Tim Gordon stated in a news release.
Gordon said that Mark Alan Brossart of Moorhead was on Big Cormorant Lake when his truck broke through the ice and became partially submerged.
After Brossart and his passenger, Jason James Cihak, got safely to shore, Cihak ignored a deputy’s warnings and tried to get back to the truck. Cihak fell through the ice but was able to get out with the help of the deputy. He was treated for submersion up to his chest area.
Becker County authorities have since closed public accesses on Big Cormorant Lake, Gordon said.
