Familiar faces, voices fill out second round of Fargo Star

FARGO – The second week of Fargo Star begins, with 28 singers ranging from a pair of former Fargo Star finalists to a local punk rocker showing his softer side.

Among the familiar faces is Jordan Thornberg, one of the finalists from last year. This year Thornberg entered with an acoustic take on The Bee Gees’ “Staying Alive.”

Jill Samuelson is the other former finalist, from 2008. The Moorhead woman’s a Martina McBride fan, so it’s not surprising she’s singing McBride’s take on “A Broken Wing” in her submission video.

And if you’re into the local music scene, you might recognize Paul Olson. He’s the vocalist for The Suit, an aggressive rock band with a dedicated following of young fans.

While Olson does a lot of screaming on stage with The Suit, he’s showing a more melodic side in Fargo Star courtesy OF his take on the song “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri.

These three might be familiar to us, but there’s a good chance one of the other 25 singers in this week’s wave will be familiar to many of you. Check out their videos at fargostar.areavoices.com and vote for your favorites.

The two singers with the most votes will automatically qualify for the Fargo Star finals on Feb. 25 at The Hub.

And if you missed last week’s videos, they’re still up on the site – you just can’t vote for them.
