Mooning likely cause of accident near Davies

FARGO – A high school student’s practical joke is believed to have caused an accident here Thursday involving five vehicles.

Police Lt. Joel Vettel said the accident was reported just after 1 p.m. near the 1700 block of 25th Street South.

Vettel said Friday the accident is still under investigation, but it appears to have started when a passenger in one vehicle attempted to moon another vehicle.

As possible retaliation, another driver tried to pass the first vehicle just before arriving at a roundabout area, Vettel said. He said the vehicles began to slow down at that point, and the passing vehicle cut off another driver as it returned to its correct lane, setting off a chain of crashes among the vehicles.

A few people sustained minor injuries, he said. Police issued some citations for careless driving and to those not wearing a seat belt.

“They’re still investigating some of the other parts of the accident, and other citations might be forthcoming,” Vettel said.
