Obituaries reveal angels around us

For many, reading the obituaries is a daily occurrence. My husband, Ray, says he reads it to see if he’s still alive.

I am amazed at the lives of those around me. Some were my neighbors or people I passed in the supermarket. To me, they are all amazing. I have read about the Greatest Generation and their love of country – the men and women who left family and home and in risk of their lives defended our country. I read of people’s devotion to God through their communities: serving on county, school and museum boards; volunteering as firefighters and EMTs; delivering meals on wheels; and tutoring children at school are a few of the ways they have given of their lives.

When these neighbors of ours touch one life, they touch us all. I wish that I could have met them. But I know that they live on in their families and those who knew them. One day, by God’s grace, I hope to meet them in heaven.
