What a debacle at sugar company

American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead: Do you have any heart at all? In all my years (since 1970) in Fargo, I have never seen such a debacle. While Crystal Sugar’s CEO Dave Berg, makes $2 million a year – not including perks – former workers stand outside in the cold, peacefully brandishing protest signs and waving at passersby.

For those who care, shouldn’t we be contacting the local union to make Christmas and New Year’s contributions, in the spirit of the season? The company seems to have no such spirit.

And what about the 270-plus sugar beet growers? Where is their heart this season as they attend church? Not “In God We Trust” but “In Greed We Believe”? And where is Rep. Collin Peterson, D.-Minn., in his whole-hearted support of Crystal Sugar?

Things have to change quickly for the sanctity of our community. Where are our weak-kneed churches on this issue (some exceptions)?
