Cass Emergency Management advises caution when burning outdoorsFARGO - Fargo Cass Emergency Management is advising caution when area residents burn outdoors.
With the lack of snow cover, the rural fire danger has been very high, according to a news release from Cass Fargo Emergency Management.
Several controlled agricultural burns in Cass County recently became out-of-control grass fires in rural areas during December.
Although portions of Cass County received light rain overnight, dry tinder continues to make conditions favorable for any outdoor burning to quickly get out of control, the release stated.
Cass County ordinances require a person to notify Red River Regional Dispatch Center at (701) 451-7660 before starting an agricultural burn. This requirement helps to eliminate unnecessary fire department response to controlled burns.
The ordinance also allows fire departments to assess the cost of their response to property owners when fires get out of control.
