Fargo police seek stray cat that bit woman

FARGO – A woman bitten by a stray cat may have to get a series of rabies shots if the escaped animal can’t be found, police said Monday.

The woman was bitten by the cat about midnight Sunday when she took it in to shelter it, police reported.

An officer took the cat into care, but it escaped while the officer responded to a disturbance in the 900 block of Seventh Avenue North, police reported.

Since then, the cat has been spotted several times in the 800 block of Sixth Avenue North, but officers have been unable to recapture the animal.

The large black cat has white markings on its chest, paws and belly. It was wearing a collar and a tag with the name Oscar on it. The tag also had a non-working phone number for the owner, police reported.

Police said the cat must be found to check on the status of its vaccinations. If the cat is not located, the woman must get a series of rabies shots.

Anyone who has seen the cat, or has information on its location or immunization status, can call Fargo police at (701) 235-4493.
