Barnesville man accused of DWI, fleeing police in vehicle and on footMOORHEAD – A Barnesville, Minn., man has been arrested and is accused of driving while intoxicated and several other charges after a vehicle and foot chase early this morning, Moorhead police reported.
Theodore Joseph Friederichs, 22, is being held without bail on a felony charge of fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, 4th-degree driving while intoxicated, fleeing a police officer on foot, and multiple traffic violations, police reported.
Friederichs had been pulled over for a traffic offense shortly before 3 a.m., police reported.
When an officer approached the driver’s side window of the vehicle Friederichs was driving, Friederichs fled, police reported.
The ensuing pursuit lasted about a minute and a half and covered about one and a quarter miles, police said.
The pursuit ended when the suspect lost control of the vehicle on the 1400 block of 2nd Avenue South and struck a tree on the north boulevard of the street, police reported.
The driver fled on foot, but was taken into custody minutes later without incident, police reported.
