Dragons ranked No. 21 in Division II men's basketball poll
MOORHEAD – The Dragons men’s basketball team made program history Wednesday.
Minnesota State Moorhead cracked the NABC/Division II Top 25 coaches poll, earning a No. 21 ranking.
This marks the first time the program has been ranked in the Top 25 since MSUM became a D-II program in 1995.
“I don’t want to diminish it, because it’s fun for our fans,” said MSUM head coach Chad Walthall, in his second season. “But at the end of the day, let’s face it: We are one-third of the way through the season. Let’s keep it in perspective.”
MSUM (9-0, 5-0 NSIC) is tied for first place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with Winona State, which is ranked No. 11 in this week’s poll.
The Dragons resume conference play on Jan. 2 when it plays host to Minnesota State Mankato.
“This is a sign that we have taken some steps forward,” MSUM athletic director Doug Peters said. “It’s been fun to see them have some success. … I’m still looking forward to see where we are in March.”
