Fire in Dilworth temporarily closes portion of Highway 10

DILWORTH – U.S. Highway 10 is temporarily closed here after a camper started on fire this afternoon.

Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said the fire at 210 Center Ave. W. is now under control but Highway 10 is closed for about a block near Center Avenue.

Commuters will have to find alternative routes through the city.

The fire started around 4 p.m. in a recreational vehicle parked next to a home.

Officials said the camper was for sale and the fire started after a potential buyer started the camper and it backfired.

Fire and rescue crews used a payloader to move the RV away from the house.

“The house received a little damage,” Bergquist said.
